 Dr. Lalitha B R is a passionate educator and practitioner who dedicates her life to teaching health topics and consulting in the field of Ayurveda. Her commitment to integrating ancient ayurveda knowledge to solve modern-healthcare challenges has made her a beloved figure among students and patients alike.  


 Currently serving as a Consultant at Sharada Ayurveda Hospital, Founder of the Swasthyam Group in the USA, a member of the Yoga Ayush Open University, and a Reviewer for the American Herbal Pharmacopoeia. 

Educational Journey:

  • Earned a B.A.M.S. degree (Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine & Surgery) from the Government College of Indian Medicine, Bangalore University (1985), laying the foundation for a career in Ayurvedic medicine.


  • Further specialized in Dravyaguna (Pharmacology) by obtaining an M.D. degree from the Government Ayurvedic Medical College under Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences (2000).


  • Completed a Ph.D. at Tilak Ayurveda Mahavidyalaya, Pune University (2001), demonstrating a deep understanding of Ayurvedic principles and practices.

Additional Qualifications:

  • Pursued a short-term course in Modern Medicine following Ayurveda graduation.
  • Heads the Pharmacovigilance Centre at Government Ayurveda Medical College, Bengaluru.
  • Served as a Drug Inspector for the Drug Licensing Authority, Govt. of Karnataka, India.

Research Endeavors:

M.D. Thesis: “Vedanasthapana Action of Mundi (Sphaeranthes indicus) – An Experimental Study.”

Ph.D. Thesis: “Nasyakarma in Shiro Rogas with a Focus on Ardhava Bhedaka: Management and Concepts.”

Research Expertise:

Dr Lalitha BR's expertise lies in the scientific exploration and application of medicinal plants. I delve into the properties of plants used in medicine and aromatherapy (pharmacognosy), research how they work within the body (pharmacodynamics), and how to best formulate them into medicines (pharmaceutical research). Additionally, She utilizes scientific methods and chemical knowledge to develop new plant-based treatments. He clinical practice focuses on promoting well-being through rejuvenation therapies and managing chronic conditions using Panchakarma, a traditional Ayurvedic detoxification approach. 

Insights and Contributions:

 Their expertise extends to sharing insights on Extra Pharmacopoeial drugs and the utility of Medicinal Plants at various national and international forums.  Furthermore, they have significantly contributed to the field's literature by authoring chapters on organic food in Ayurveda and home remedies. 

Recent Workshops and Lectures Delivered:

  • "An Insight into Extra Pharmacopoeial Drugs: Anukta Dravya w.s.r. to Veerya," Jaipur, January 2018. (This lecture focused on lesser-known, but potentially beneficial, medicinal plants and their properties.)
  • "Myriad Diversified Utility of Medicinal Plants," Indian Institute of Horticultural Research (IIHR). (This workshop explored the vast range of applications for medicinal plants.)
  • "Medicinal Plants: Elixir of Life and Its Utility," KLE College. (This lecture explored the health benefits and uses of medicinal plants.)
  • "ROTP on Drug Standardization and Drug Action," Delhi and Raipur. (This workshop focused on methods for standardizing and understanding the effects of medicinal plant-based drugs.)
  • "Mode of Action of Drugs," Sri Sri College. (This lecture explored how medicinal plants work within the body.)

  • Chapter on "Organic Food Utility in Ayurveda," for the book "Organic Foods" edited by Anjali Pathak, Lucknow.
  • Chapter on "Ardhava Bhedaka," published by Sadguru Publications, Pune.
  • Contribution to a compendium on "Betelvine: History, Mystery, and Chemistry of Betelvine."
  • Handbook on Home Remedies, published by the Indian Institute of Horticultural Research (IIHR).
  • Compendium of Medicinal Plants, Dravyakosha, published by the Knowledge Commission.
  • "Mane Maddu, Sulabha Chikitsa, for Children, Urban and Rural People, Hasiru Samrakshane," published by the Knowledge Commission. (This book focused on readily available and inexpensive treatments for children and people in both urban and rural areas.)
